Royal Camp, Nagaur |
|
Location |
Nagaur lies midway
between Jodhpur and Bikaner. Established in the 4th
century, it has witnessed many historic battles
fought by the brave Rajputs. The massive protective
walls of the Nagaur Fort encompass an ancient
complex of richly painted palaces, mosques, temples,
intricate boaris (Reservoirs), fountains, open
terraces and pleasure gardens dating back to the
Mughal times. Delicate paintings adorn many of the
walls and ceilings of the places. The old city also
has several mosques, including the one commissioned
by emperor Akbar. Nagaur hosts a week-long cattle
fair which takes place in late January or early
February. The fair attracts thousands of rural
people. There are camel races and various cultural
entertainment programmes by folk artists.
Soaking in the medieval atmosphere of Nagaur is
WelcomHeritage’s luxurious Royal Camp. Pitched
within the fortifications of the splendid Nagaur
Fort, the Camp offers a unique opportunity to
participate in the rich traditions of Rajasthan and
witness its vibrant culture and people. The Camp is
an ideal stopover for lunch for those who wish to
visit the Fort. The town of Khimsar and the sand
dunes, which are only 55 kms away, are an added
attraction
