Brijraj Bhawan Palace Hotel is a Heritage Hotel. It
is also the residence of Maharao Brijraj Singh of
Kotah and his family. It was built in 1830 A.D. as
the British Residency and later became the State
guest house of Kotah in 1900 A.D. Many VVIPs from
viceroys, Kings and Queens to Maharaja's and Prime
Ministers have stayed here. Lord Curzon visited in
1903. Queen Mary of England stayed here on her visit
to 1911. Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi came in
1971.
This colonial style building is situated on the
right bank of the river Chambal and commands a
magnificent view. Its spacious rooms are graced with
elegant period furniture. The drawing and dining
rooms are very eye catching, with many personal
affects of the royal family. All bedrooms are
air-conditioned with attached modern bathrooms, and
are equipped with colour TV and telephone with
national and international access. Most rooms have a
pleasing river view.
The
well maintained lawns and terrace gardens add to the
style of gracious living. An abundance of trees and
general greenery in the riverside environ at Brijraj
Bhawan Palace ensures the presence of a wide variety
of birds. Guests can play croquet on the green lawns
here and also enjoy a game of tennis. A badminton
court too is being made ready. In fact, guests are
tempted to spend the entire winter day soaking in
the sun, relaxing, and doing nothing here.
