Description:
The Lake Palace is one of
the most beautiful palaces in the world, arising out of the Turquoise
Waters of the Pichola like an elegant fantasy in white marble. The
palace was built in the 17th century on a natural foundation of 4
acers of rock. It was initially called Jaginwas after its founder
Maharana Jagjit Singh . The Maharana, ruler of Jaipur from 1628 to
1654, was very friendly with Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and encouraged
his craftsmen to copy some of the glories of his incomparable
buildings at Agra. The successive rulers used this cool haven as their
summer resort, holding their regal durbars in its courtyards. |

Description:
Tucked away in the age-old Aravali hills of Rajasthan, the 18th
century Devi Garh Fort Palace, in the village of Delwara commands one
of the three main passes into the valley of Udaipur. Sajja Singh, who
hailed from the neighbouring state of Gujarat, was awarded this
strategically significant principality, in recognition of his bravery
and loyalty to Maharana Pratap against the Mughal emperor Akbar, at
the battle of Haldighati (1576). |

Description:
Crescent
adorning the southern end of the Palace complex, the Shiv Niwas Palace
was originally Maharana Fateh Singhji's residence. The rooms around
this awe-inspiring courtyard were used as a place for entertaining
personal guests. It was the vision of the late Maharana Bhagwat
Singhji, which led to its conversion into a luxury hotel. |

Description:
Fifty one kilometer south of Udaipur lies JAISAMAND Lake, one of the
largest artificial lake of the world. Fourteen kilometers in length &
nine kilometers in width, the lake has a circumference of nearly
eighty eight kilometers. It was built by the Maharaja Jaisingh, who on
it's inauguration on 2nd June, 1691 walked around it distributing gold
equal to his own weight in charity. He built Six Chhatris (cenotaphs)
with finely embroidered elephants in front, the temple of Lord Shiva
in the center on the embankment. |
